For a week in 2017, I traveled to Cuba with a group of students. There, we explored the city of Camagüey, became friends with locals, and interviewed artists. It was incredible to see how the artists used the items in their environment to create art. One man created faces from leather. Another man carved hummingbirds from blocks of wood. Each of them drew inspiration from their roots.
In these images, I've captured the vitality that that the people brought to the city. It was just as alive at night as it was during the day. At midnight, a man stood on a corner outside the bar cutting bread and making sandwiches. People biked through the streets or sat in the park talking with friends.
